As we observe the 80th anniversary of the Holocaust, America is starting to realise the consequences of electing a regime that uses the power of the state to censure a priest for preaching mercy. This is the most disgusting moral failure of our time.

The US Congress has disgraced our history and soiled our values with this vile assault on free speech. What else do you need to know to understand what is happening right under your noses?

A state that will publicly pillory a peaceful person, using legislation to sanction free speech, especially of a leader one of the world's great religions, will feel no hesitation to hang them at some future point if this flagrant abuse power by the goes unchecked. This is irrefutable proof that supposedly christian America has subsided into deep fascism.

When this controversy started, I associated the Bishop’s actions with Dietrich Bonhoeffer. The actions of the christo-fascist controlled legislature have intensified this observation into a lament.

A brief summary of Dietrich Bonhoeffer's life and legacy:

• Dietrich Bonhoeffer was a German Lutheran pastor and theologian known for his opposition to Hitler and the Nazi regime during World War II.

• He was an influential figure in the Confessing Church, a movement that resisted the Nazi government's attempts to control the church.

• Bonhoeffer was involved in the German resistance, working to undermine the Nazi regime and providing support to Jews and other persecuted groups.

• He was arrested in 1943 and executed in 1945 for his role in a plot to assassinate Hitler.

• Bonhoeffer's theological writings continue to be widely read and studied, and he is considered a martyr and a symbol of resistance to tyranny and injustice.

• Some of his most notable works include "The Cost of Discipleship," "Ethics," and "Letters and Papers from Prison."

Appeasement never works

Winston Churchill warned the British who were appeasing Hitler of one simple fact.

It may already be too late for America to hear this warning given we elected the tiger and gave him all the power in the world - obedience from the other branches of government. The checks and balances designed to prevent tyranny have collapsed.

I have said many times that there is no America to come and save America.

Lincoln put it best

Never!—All the armies of Europe, Asia and Africa combined, with all the treasure of the earth (our own excepted) in their military chest; with a Bonaparte for a commander, could not by force, take a drink from the Ohio, or make a track on the Blue Ridge, in a trial of a thousand years.

Shock and awe

The shock and awe assault on American norms and institutions will continue unabated. They may not start with hanging priests, but they will pass through that point and go far beyond.

We are witnessing the complete collapse of everything we have stood for prior to the infiltration and takeover of government by fascism in America. For four years this Substack had issued warnings to a few hundred readers. They never seemed to really believe. They said I was a pessimist but they appreciated the viewpoint.

As a reader reminded me this week, Marshall McLuhan said

“only small secrets need to be protected, the big ones are kept secret by public incredulity”

I was a realist. As an historian I had seen this all before and saw Nazi Germany unfolding in America and dropped everything to issue warnings. My only fear is we have already passed the point of no return.
