Washington DC 7 June 2022
National Terrorism Advisory System Bulletin - June 07, 2022 09:00 am
“We expect that environment will become more dynamic in the coming months,” said DHS Secretary Alejandro N. Mayorkas.
“Threat actors have recently mobilized to violence due to factors such as personal grievances, reactions to current events, and adherence to violent extremist ideologies, including racially or ethnically motivated or anti-government/anti-authority violent extremism.”
Translation
More dynamic = Things are getting worse and there will be an uptick in domestic terrorism particularly from anti-government/anti-authority violent extremism.
Why now? Likely they see the following triggers:
Jan 6 Committee Hearings
Legal consequences for Trump inner circle growing - like the Navarro arrest
Trump himself might face consequences in GA or NY cases (for the full list of his legal exposure click here )
As they have in the past, foreign actors are no doubt using the growing instability to use active measures to further provoke events inside the US. But don’t let that divert from the core message - the threat is coming from inside the house - anti-government/anti-authority violent extremism.
Comment
DHS - established after 9/11 to prevent terrorism dropped the ball on domestic terrorism in 2009 and has never quite recovered.
Despite Oklahoma City, Ruby Ridge, Waco and all related events, DHS was like watching a children’s soccer game, the entire organization was crowded around the AQ ball.
Daryl Johnson the top intelligence analyst in DHS in 2009 wrote an internal bulletin that warned of rising “rightwing extremism”
Johnson addressed the unique vulnerability of veterans to be recruited by anti government terrorist cells. This was viewed as politicization of honorable service men and women and there were howls of outrage.
CWII has touched on this issue already. When the country asks its warriors to do things that cant be achieved by the use of force (democratize the Middle East), when its reason for war is undermined (no WMDs in Iraq), and when it under serves its troops (you go to war with the Army you have) and its veterans (treatment of veterans is a national disgrace), a very small number of the millions who serve might be vulnerable to anti-government narratives. This should not be shocking.
The facts from J6 show that the Johnson analysis was correct. This is why the DHS and DOD immediately launched investigations to established the degree of extremism in the ranks.
Researchers find fourfold annual increase in number of Americans with military ties added to extremist list
This is also in line with history. All around the world, returning veterans from WWI were disillusioned. Big promises were made to them that were broken. New ideologies of communism and fascism appealed to veterans who felt cheated by the state. The Russian revolution was not the only violent struggle between left and right. Similar battles took place in Germany, France, Britain and even far away Australia (which had a huge fascist problem that toppled one state government - Lang NSW). This interesting history is covered in detail in the book behind this blog.
Johnson’s analysis also explains some of the drivers behind the Trump phenomena. Trump was entertaining and delighted in offending the Royal Houses of Clinton and Bush. His criticism of the latter focused heavily on the lost wars in the Middle East. That resonated with veterans. But his appeal did not stop there. People from all walks of life flocked to the radical outsider. He spoke both for them and to them. Very few expected him to go where he ended up going. At least not at first.
The result is today America has a coup and violent anti-government threat that is growing. It is the subject of the book behind this blog.
“Despite Oklahoma City, Ruby Ridge, Waco and all related events, DHS was like watching a children’s soccer game, the entire organization was crowded around the AQ ball.”
Sad, but true.
