Perfection is not possible here. Plausible is what we are going for. Feel free to nominate your own non-maga republican with sufficient national standing and name recognition to gain traction. He was a past presidential candidate. He has (mostly) criticized maga. The guy has serious security due to maga so he is careful how far he goes. Please don't confuse mentioning a name with full, excited, enthusiastic endorsement. This is an emergency.

I like the idea, but why would Biden not endorse the “Unity” ticket?

On the Den side I think it has to be an open competition. Biden will feel obligated to nominate his veep. No harm no foul on her, but she is not popular or politically skilled like Pete or Gav - they are naturals. Pete had a Fox audience give him an ovation. He can take outrageous comments and Qs and answer them sincerely showing them up for what they are. The EV thing this week is a classic example. He gave a straight answer to a boneheaded Q simply by being factual.

Once the ticket is established I'm sure an endorsement from Joe would be a huge help.

I really like Pete B. His preternatural gift for argument and logic inspires awe. He would be a great choice. I just wonder if the U.S. would actually elect a gay man in 2024?

Newsom would probably also do well. A moderate, anti-Trump republican pairing for the VP would be mind blowing and really meet our Dunkirk moment.

I sure hope your idea gets some traction and takes flight. I doubt if the polls will change much between now and November unless an exciting new candidate is offered as a new option.

Thanks for your feedback. It's funny, I forget Pete is gay. I could not care less but I know prejudice on such things runs high in some quarters. He is a very smart guy in general and in not playing the "identity" card. He gets on with the job and his identity does not come into it. We need a lot more of that. I know minorities have struggled to get to positions of authority but the constant flagging of this one element of a person is tiresome. Left media introduce people in ironically racist ways. "This is X, a [insert country of birth-American], who is the first [insert ethnicity], also a [insert gender ID],"... etc etc... I would prefer "here is X, they achieved 1,2,3 for their constituents and turned around this program to achieve "Y" outcomes".. etc.

I am not sure gay is a big barrier like it used to be. Whoever wont vote for Pete on that basis wont vote for him anyway.

Here is the bigger secret, I think the true silent majority of real GOP are not extremists or bigots or everything that defines maga. They are just the most visible because they are the most obnoxious and they revel in being abrasive - thats their brand. They think it "owns" the other side.

What is lost is legislation and getting things done. We need to return to boring technocrats and policy wonks. Politics has supplanted UFC as entertainment for the dumbs. Let's leave UFC in the cage.

I am MPBA - Make Politics Boring Again!

Someone said Sir Kier Stammer is boring but ruthless in rooting out jerks in his party which is a contributing factor to their win (tory disaster was core factor). PERFECT! MPBA win!

I floated your Unity ticket on X and somewhat surprisingly some people got mad and blocked me just for suggesting that.

Given that this truly is our Dunkirk moment, I believe people need to be honest and make a clear eyed assessment of potential options.

I was called a Republican by some folks for suggesting Cheney or Kenzinger be the new VP.

In any case, if we wake up on 6 November with Trump as our President we are “going to go through some things.” Whatever it takes to beat Trump must be our single focus.

It would be a good start, anyway. We need a major overhaul to many parts of the government.

Adam, have you given more thought to putting your grandmother's memories to paper? (LOL paper) It would make a grand comparison with what we have.

Thanks for thinking about this Meg and for reminding me. I am sorry I have not. I have been consumed by the oxygen/life thief we have all had to suffer. I am grateful to you for remembering, your interest and for reminding me.
