I’m no expert , by any means - but it doesn’t seem that Id politics automatically correlate to electoral defeats. I can think of no more identity tribe than MAGAT, trumpism. Now maybe you’ll say that was a backlash to Dems “Id” politics - but I’d argue that’s false too - both groups go very far back( Ds to civil rights for blacks and other minorities , to women’s suffrage, to the environmental movement , to LBGTQ movements ) this isn’t JUST an Id hastily pasted on to sell Dems. It’s in our blood.

Similarly , I don’t think the maga movement is just a tag hastily pasted - to sell- it has its roots in depriving rights ( KKK, NeoNazis) now it’s hastily added evangelicals and libertarians to sell the products - but see how well that’s gonna go. Their identity is based on very real belief sys that they well believe in.

I think the ID politics term is not being used in a beneficial manner - it’s derogatory , a slur - but we’re ALL identifying with something - a pol movement , a church , a knitting group - you cannot organize any group of persons on the planet without them first identifying themselves as a possible member of that group (I’d like to be a knitter, or I’d like to uphold the constitution ).

The R is now identifying itself as a party that isn’t going to uphold the constitution - that document is in its way. So like it or not , folks now need to choose which group they’re going to Id with, and yes , that’s going to get very painful .

Hey Deborah, im glad you found it thought provoking. I keep prefacing and caveating the action piece that is still on the drawing board. This one is the first of two articles that started as a footnote from the question you raised with me about recommening action. I expanded on my initial reply to you to flesh out my reasoning. It could turn into a stand alone piece as well. For now, I have it as a caveat on the action piece. I hope to get that out shortly. Thank you for ssking questions and thereby helping me refine what it is i am trying to do here.

It makes zero sense to me to plead "The Constitution" when there is zero enforcement of the document. "make me" seems to be M-rats answer to everything.

Agreed. Its y as good as the institutions and people defending it. The past few years have been instructive in that regard.
