I literally canNOt believe that this is happening . Keep hoping I’ll wake up from this nightmare . But know that it will get steadily far far worse . Catastrophic!
Is it impolitic to to ask if CWII, per your bio, has a current affiliation has a current US military affiliation? If so, I support all you do, but you might want to change your profile picture to a lettuce, a la Liz Truss...
I applaud your courage. I think that serving military officers need to start protesting or taking other acts of resistance, and they need to not be shy in letting rank and file members of the military know about their concerns, without using the chain of command to play politics. But getting serving military officers to do this is a bit like trying to teach your cat to swim. Actions like this go entirely against their nature.
The US military has a proud tradition of being apolitical. Maga has attacked them with the woke weapon (pure BS) to make the military defend itself - which maga then uses to say “see they are being political”. Per the Nuremberg piece there is no longer an option to legally disobey an order. That's not going to end well for anyone.
I am working on a piece on the military and how it might react to a civil war. Stay turned! Subscribe and tell your friends.
Hopefully he will just withdraw our troops. He has wanted to do that for years - ever since his first time to the USSR in 77 or 78 whenever it was. He has been a very reliable asset.
I am sure they have not thought through all the possibilities.
Switching to Russia's side and keeping troops there is a huge headache for the Europeans. He could just have them as a silent threat. No need to openly go against the Europeans. The intel they would be able to pass to Russia by staying in and pretending to be a good ally would be valuable to Putin.
The Europeans could ask US forces to leave and Trump, I guarantee you, will demand payment to move them! But rather than provoke a confrontation they will likely play along pretending America is still an ally but doing all they can to prepare to fight Russia.
The bigger question is if he ordered US troops into combat against our 'allies' would they follow orders. I think not. But the crisis that situation would create could go any number of ways.
I’ve been thinking about Robert Hanssen (may his putrid corpse rot in hell) lately. And Ames, too, but I know much more about Hanssen. Spook world is way out of my wheelhouse, but I can’t help but wonder what he shared and how much of it helped Russia bring America to its knees.
Not my expertise either but these spies usually divulge identities of US assets in Russia and/or specific technical programs that the other side need to know about at that time. Like what were stars wars (SDI - not the movie!) real capabilities, or the latest subs tech or places they go to launch nuclear weapons.
The Russian advantage over us is via manipulation of social media. You don't need spies for that. Just a strong cultural understanding.
I see next to no evidence that any elected leaders who aren’t grateful for the election assist from Russia (Dems) have fully absorbed the social media manipulation.
Too late now, at least for a very long time.
I still detest Hanssen for his treachery, but he has lots of company throughout the US government now.
I feel sick that our military would be used to menace our allies and pass along intel to Putin.
Have you spoken with any Americans stationed in Europe? I wonder how they are feeling.
The cancellation of Ruth Ben-Ghiat’s speaking engagement a few months ago at the Naval Academy, which felt like a very bad omen then, feels even more significant now.
The RBG cancellation was preemptive submission. No question. The real canary in the coal mine is zero support for General Milley. If Biden had axed a general who was critical of him - say like Mike Flynn - then he would have been impeached after Fox generated the outrage.

Thank you Adam
for your clear insightful analysis
of what we are facing.
The making of a dictator!!!!!!!!!! Look it up

Will Europe will evict US troops?
How?
--> that's the problem.
